I run into a problem with LXDE when I log in for a second time. In this case lxpanel and pcmanfm are both unresponsive (panel and window do not appear) for about 45 seconds after I log in and the X session is started.
I am running Arch linux and do not have a login manager. I log into my user account and run startx, and in my .xinitrc I have "exec ck-launch-session startlxde". I do not run pcmanfm as my desktop - in /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart I have commented out the line '@pcmanfm --no-desktop --profile lxde', so all that gets started is lxpanel and xscreensaver.
The first login is fine, but if I logout (lxde-logout), and then run startx again, there is a delay of about 45 seconds before lxpanel appears, and likewise if try and launch pcmanfm it also has the same delay. The X session has started and other programs start fine during this period.
I can't see anything much going on in terms of CPU or disk IO during this period.
I'm running the latest Arch Linux with
lxpanel 0.5.8-1
lxde-common 0.5.5-1
lxsession 0.4.6.1-1
pcmanfm 0.9.8-6
and a few other lxde packages.
Any thoughts on what is causing this would be much appreciated.

Hello there,
I know this is a late reply but I just saw your post.
I have never used Arch before, I'm using Lubuntu 11.04 as a native LXDE Distro.
I know LXDE components can be used independently
but perhaps something is missing in your case? I mean a package or two could be missing? I'm just guessing because I don't have similar scenario.

http://wiki.lxde.org/en/Main_PageUnlike other tightly integrated desktops LXDE strives to be modular, so each component can be used independently with few dependencies. This makes porting LXDE to different distributions and platforms easier.
