Huh? It's not only in XMonad - as I mentioned, it happens when you restore a window from minimized state too.

I cannot reproduce your slow to take focus behavior on any of Openbox, Compiz, or Fluxbox, nor do I see a change from any previous release. I regret that I cannot help you further at this time. Please do run whatever terminal emulator suits you, and thank you for reminding us that we should have provided the audible bell.
