Cannot see title box in terminal

Post by rolandpish »

Hi. I just moved to lxde and I'm quite impressed.
I have one issue though, if I execute lxterminal it doesn't show the title bar, furthermore, I cannot see the minimize/close/maximize buttons.
Is there a workaround for this?

Thanks in advance

What window manager is this with (this will be an answer like "Openbox" or "Compiz")? What distro and how did you get LXDE? It is the window manager, not the application, that draws the things you are missing. Do other applications work correctly?

Thanks a lot for your reply Marty!
Well, I installed lubuntu and I think it's using openbox. Other applications work correctly, the issue is only happening with lxterminal and gnome-system-monitor.

In a debian lenny box I installed lxde and same thing happens.

Thanks again.

http://openbox.org/wiki/Help:Applicatio ... n_settings

Take a look at this and see if you can locate a spurious setting for "nodecor" for lxterminal.

Thanks Marty.
I installed and used obapps to configure lxterminal, tried lots of things (decor and non-decor) and different combinations of options but the same problem happens.
So curious about this issue and don't know if it's a problem with the video driver?

I am confident it is not the video driver. Once again, the window manager draws the title bar, and if it is limited to two and only two applications, it is most likely a configuration problem. You will probably find the problem if you physically look at the Openbox configuration files, and make sure you are looking at the ones that are actually being used. If no joy, ask in the Lubuntu support forums.

If you "ps aux", you can make sure you are running openbox.

Hello all. I'm having the same problem.

An issue is when I open lxterminal and the title bar is not there, I have to right click on the top of screen to minimize/maximize it, after minimize and maximize it, the title bar appeared partially and close/minimize/maximize buttons never show up. I didn't have the problem with Mandriva 2010.0...running it in another terminal didn't display any messages, and logging in as a different user didn't make any difference.

I'm using the community edition of Mandriva MUD LXDE, Openbox WM, 2010.0 to 2010.1 upgrade when this issue started happening.

Any ideas/suggestions on fixing it?

Thnx.

I am also having this problem. I am running DebXO 6.0 (Debian Squeeze on the OLPC XO laptop).

Also, when I maximize lxterminal all text disappears from the computer and I have to reboot.

My apologies for reviving an old thread, but I believe this problem may be related to the video card and driver used.

I am running Debian Squeeze (6.0.6) on a Compaq Presario 5900Z built in 1999. It came with a Diamond Multimedia AGP video card with an S3 Savage 4 video chip on it, the card has 16Mb of video memory on it. It is using the 'savage' driver.

I also have two other video cards, a 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 PCI which uses the 'tdfx' driver and an nVIDIA GeForce2 MX400 PCI which I believe uses the 'nv' driver. Both of these video cards also have 16Mb of video memory on each. All three video cards default to 1024x768 resolution on a 17" CRT monitor, but the nVIDIA card (using the 'nv' driver) also offers additional resolutions up to 1280x1024.

If I use either the Diamond/S3 Savage or 3dfx video cards, the lxterminal title bar will appear as expected.

When the nVIDIA video card is used, the title bar is actually invisible. Using the red LXDE desktop wallpaper as the example, if I grab the top of the lxterminal window where the title bar should have appeared, I can drag the entire lxterminal window. In the title bar space, the portion of the red graphics from the desktop wallpaper that filled in that space, is being moved along with the rest of the lxterminal window and the breaks in the graphics will be quite obvious.
