Remove ibus without breaking lubuntu-desktop? -- [SOLVED]

The lubuntu 14.04 docs [see below] recommends removing ibus as a bug-fix but does not provide information on how to do so. Neither does the launchpad bug page linked therein. In addition to the international keyboard issue, 'ibus' also interferes with the chromium browser.

-add package fcitx, right click keyboard on task bar, replace ibus with fcitx, stop ibus

... but I'd like to remove ibus packages before attempting the above 'fcitx' install. And regardless, as it relates to a posted bug/bug-fix, removing ibus seems worth exploring.

Welcome to the LXDE forum. I am not sure if you are asking a question or reporting information. In any event, I have installed and am using Lubuntu 14.04 and only had one small problem with the Wireless but then I am not using Chromium.

After posting here, I was later advised on the lubuntu freenode IRC channel that it's safe to remove 'lubuntu-desktop' as it's only a meta-package. I proceeded to do so while removing 'ibus' packages and now chromium takes keyboard input properly and seems to generally work fine.

It was also mentioned that removing 'lubuntu-desktop' might later affect upgrading to a new release. May be advisable to re-install before doing a full distribution upgrade. Perhaps someone more experienced than I could please clarify/confirm/refute this.

User "vasa1" has provided some additional relevant feedback via the ubuntu forum thread I linked previously. Apparently one may simply disable 'ibus', rather than remove it:

Go to Preferences > Language Support and change Keyboard input method system from ibus to none. Then log out and log in again.

BTW, "lubuntu-desktop" is only a metapackage and is not essential; if you get a notice it will be removed, all the applications will remain intact. "lubuntu-desktop" may be required only if you want to upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10 when the next version of Lubuntu becomes available. If you prefer to do a clean install, as many of us do, then it doesn't matter.

Yes it MAY affect an upgrade, however since this release of Lubuntu is a Long Term Support release and is supported for 3 years, you not even have to worry about that possibility. I always do a fresh install anyway.
Even though you have solved your problem, you could still stick around and provide assistance to others. We are a small forum since we only deal with LXDE and have even fewer active members so we welcome all help that we can get.
