Wall paper

Post by nearnexus »

You may consider adding/using the following wall paper to the next version of Lubuntu.

http://futuremaza.net/download/77482/ra ... ld-meeting

It has a clean look about it that is not busy, and really sets off the simple LXDE desktop. The provided wall papers are OK, but this I feel would be a good addition to the limited choice.

I've been using LXDE in various incarnations for about 20 years, and since Mint stopped their version, I've switched to Lubuntu, and must say the experience has been very pleasant and trouble free. It's installed on an old HP Presario 2200 laptop.

Great job by all concerned.

Welcome to the LXDE forum. While we appreciate your comments here, the developers rarely sign on here. I really like the wall paper. Feel free to provide input if you have the time and the inclination to problems in other parts of the forum.

it is not my taste.

most distro's default wallpapers are as neutral & abstract as possible, usually with some logo.

and that is on purpose. you cannot start taking people's personal tastes into account like that. everyone can change their desktop background.

Hi,

The choice of wallpapers included in each release of Lubuntu is the result of an online poll. People who are interested in contributing can look at the following links:

http://lubuntublog.blogspot.com/2014/08 ... ntest.html

So please be on the lookout for the announcement sometime before the release of 15.04!

Thanks for the heads up on the poll.

Yes, I understand everyone has different views on what is a suitable wall paper.

That's why I posted, as the included ones are OK, but a bit limited in number.

Maybe double that, would be no impost on the package.

You're welcome. While it's possible that having twice as many wallpapers included is possible, each time a new release of Lubuntu is near, the devs have to struggle to get the .iso to fit on a CD. Here's a post relating to the most recent case: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/lubun ... 08602.html.

Some of the posts in that same thread also discuss whether that restriction should be removed in the future. If that happens, Lubuntu will be able to ship a lot of additional things by default.

My personal feeling on the matter is that Lubuntu should focus on its core reason for existing and leave the choice of themes and applications to the user. Anyway, Lubuntu will be in a state of flux in the near future because of the intended move to LXQt by 15.04. If 15.04 goes the LXQt way, the existing supported LXDE versions would then just see security and maintenance fixes.

Interesting.

I have used LXDE for a very long time and it's a great OS package. The next generation Qt version should be a good move - hopefully.

This is the first I've heard of the proposed move.

Once again thanks for the heads up.

If you want to follow what's happening in LXQt (not specific to Lubuntu), visit lxqt.org and links therein. There was a problem of people typing www.lxqt.org and being sent elsewhere. I don't know if that's been resolved so do make sure you visit lxqt.org and not www.lxqt.org.

One caveat: my CPU usage is higher on lxqt.org, possibly because of the "slider" or "carousel" that changes images.
