Why .rar does not work?

Hallo everyone!

I come from Ubuntu, but it crashed since my Laptop is very old.
And now I discover Lubuntu. Which is very cool!!!

I installed .rar and I also found it (which is not so easy for a beginner as I, 'cos Lubuntu does not have a search function).
It landed on \bin\... as an executable. But when I click, nothing happens.
What should I do???

Please, help me. I need .rar to unpack a java platform, that i use to earn my money...
