I was using default Ubuntu 18.04 with Gnome DE. Everything worked fine. I wanted to go light on resources since Gnome used around 2 GB without anything running. I used the command

But even after that, the " Display settings " window is all over my screen. Please help if possible.I had a similar issue on my previous laptop. It was a DELL Inspiron N5110. I didn't find a solution, but a workaround. The workaround was disabling xrandr from dconf. You may try it by running gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xrandr active false.
