Mageia 9 OS

Post by Ziggi »

Mageia OS is based on or continues the Mandriva project.
It has many installation options with one such being the LXDE desktop. 8-)

This of course grabbed my attention and soon had the ‘live’ iso downloaded.
However this live version does not have LXDE as an option so used Xfce to try live without install.
Converted to bootable USB without any issues and subsequently booted up perfectly on my old 2013 Dell Latitude E6420.
Some would say it looks dated but I would say it operates with function over form or fancy gizmos so gets my vote.
Resource at idle about 550MiB with Xfce so would expect 400MiB RAM or less when using much more efficient LXDE. :geek:
Having downloaded the ‘classic’ installation iso at a mega 4.2GiB I was just about to wipe away Loc-OS when I found that Mageia relied on ‘systemd’ init system which is a deal-breaker for me. :x
However for current Buntu, Fedora, Cent-OS and other ‘systemd’ init users this should, but won’t bother you guys. So yes it’s a pity about embedded ‘systemd’ as this is a very interesting distro ;) with a relatively small user base yet very good documentation and forum – top marks.
Many languages supported – see here – top right.
