[FR] Dolphin's address bar

Post by Surgat »

Hello there,

I'm an LXDE user since some months ago and it's been a great improvement from my previous KDE4 DE, but I think that Dolphin's address bar is far better than PCManFM's and it's not heavy (I think).

It's just a little change: instead of showing the address bar as plain text it is shown as a series of buttons, one for each directory that contains the one currently shown. For example, if PCManFM is showing the content of /usr/share/pcmanfm, the address bar would be a button labeled 'usr', another one labeled 'share' and the last one labeled 'pcmanfm'. If you click on a button it goes to the directory called that way, and the rest of the buttons (the ones on the right of that one) don't dissapear until you go into another directory inside the one you are now. That way you can go up several directories with a single click, which I prefer rather than clicking several times on the 'one directory up' button, and the same if you want to go back to the directory you were at. Also, if you click on the space on the right of the buttons they turn into the well-known plain text address bar, so you can edit it as always.

Finally, a link to the dolphin web page, where you can see some screenshots (note: what I've called address bar is called navigation bar in that page, I don't know the correct term): http://dolphin.kde.org/

So, what do you people think? And the devs? Thank you for reading!
Cheers!

Hi

This is a nice idea. Btw, this future can be found in nautilus and thunar, also. I think it's a nice Future, but i would prefer a choice, buttons or entry. Feel free to add a future request on sf.net.

Done: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.p ... tid=894872

I've added your suggestion of implementing it as an option, I think it's a better idea. Thanks.

Ok to put this feature as an option, but not by default... I think the "adress bar" is ok as it is... it can be helpful when you need to quickly copy/paste it.... buttons are only.... "click click click"

I think it's worth it: you have to click before pasting, so I don't care clicking anywhere in the address bar or in the button that turns the buttons into text (maybe it should select the text when the buttons turn into it).
