Lubuntu 11.10 is here so what do you think?
Re: Lubuntu 11.10 is here so what do you think?
I've grown very fond of Lubuntu over the last three or four releases. I've installed and run it on various laptops and netbooks, all which fly under the flag of LXDE. I also have a "gaming" rig, set up with all the bells and whistles (AMD Phenom II x6 @2.8GHz, 8GB RAM, 1GB Radeon HD 5770). Unity works okay, though compiz does not get along with my video card, and I've never been a huge proponent of KDE. I installed Lubuntu 11.10 to this machine the other day and have not looked back. It roars on this machine. I simply love this distro. Keep up the good work!

I have a bit of a bug in Lubuntu 11.10 with the Jupiter power saver app. The Jupiter app works fine in Xubuntu 11.10 and it works in Lubuntu 11.10 but when I installed it via terminal at the end of the install it said there was an error. But the app is working in Lubuntu, however, now every time I install something in synaptic Package Manager I get an error that the application did not install, even though it has. I'm guessing it's related to the Jupiter app since that is where it started. Everything seems to work well, just get the nuisance warning at the end of every installation of every app now.

PS--update, Power Saver mode in Jupiter was bogging Lubuntu down so much I had to remove Jupiter. I installed Psensor to keep track of the computer temp.

Since all of the other flavors have LTS versions coming out in the Spring, I would assume that Lubuntu will do the same, but I think we have to wait until someone from the group is on line to answer that one.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1870442First of all, please be informed that Lubuntu 12.04 will not be Long Term Support (LTS) release. Ubuntu 12.04 will be LTS though.

Well, I'm currently running 11.04 on my lappy and 11.10 on my desktop. Here's the sum total of my dissatisfaction with Lubuntu 11.10:
Something was changed in ~/.config/openbox/lubuntu-rc.xml in 11.10 and as a result, when I launch the run dialog (with alt-f2) and pcmanfm (I've set that up to work with Win-f), they do not have focus, and ususally start below the app that does. That's really annoying. Any ideas? I've posted my lubuntu-rc.xml here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1875891

I very much like 11.10. Like many people - this is my first introduction to Lubuntu. I have used Ubuntu since 9.10, but I just couldnt get used to Unity or Gnome3. I have always been far more interested in speed and usability than eye-candy, LXDE is perfect for me. Thanks a lot to all who are involved with the project. I will be converting all my computers over to it as their old Ubuntu support expires.

Also really enjoying Lubuntu 11.10, been using it for awhile now. I think the KISS principle should be carved into the heads of Linux developers
LXDE/Lubuntu get that principle very well.

I'm a new linux user. I've been a long time windows user and before that OS/2. I've tried Ubuntu 10.10 and Opensuse 11.3 with Gnome 2 interface, both of which were pretty good from an interface perspective. I've tried the Gnome 3 and 3.2 version and did not think much of them.
I've been running Lubuntu 11.10 in a VM for about a month and its the best linux distribution I've found so far. I've also been experimenting with Opensuse 12.1 with an LXDE desktop and its pretty good as well. The only issue that I've encountered so far is with Alacarte on Opensuse LXDE.
The one thing that I would like to see in LXDE is a graphical menu editor.

Hi I just want to say thanks to whoever is responsible for LXDE and Lubuntu 11.10. I'm a long time Linux user, starting in 1999, and I've tried many Distos over the years. I was a great fan of KDE, but unfortunately 4 was and still is attrocious! So I changed to Gnome. Now Gnome has gone the same way with 3 and Unity is even worse. I just got a new laptop I tried a few distros, but Lubuntu is by far the best. So fast, so functional and a really nice setup out of the box. Congratulations.

Welcome to the LXDE forum. I'm a Lubuntu user and have fallen madly in love with LXDE, Lubuntu specifically.
