Hello,

I am not using LXDE yet. I'm just want to figure out if it's worth trying. I have two questions:

1) I've read that it is not possible to remove the "My Documents" icon unless you disable PCManFM. Is that true? I like to keep my desktop mostly clean. I usually have one file or one folder on my desktop and that's it. I especially don't like a forced icon like "My Documents" which I would never use and reminds me of Windows.

2) Can I configure a panel so it looks like Gnome's menu panel with "Applications", "Places" and "System"? This menu is one of the things I like most about Gnome and I want to keep it.

For reference, I basically like Ubuntu's default Gnome configuration. I change the background, the Gtk+ theme and the default applications (I like Claws Mail and Google Chrome), but the basic configuration of Gnome itself is basically perfect. I would like to have a similar look & feel with LXDE.

If those are the things you like about Gnome, you should run Gnome. You would not be able to get the same experience with LXDE. It is not our goal to copy every detail; this would make it impossible to achieve the lightness we seek.

Well, I can't imagine that the ability to not have an icon on my desktop would make LXDE more bloated. It seems like a pretty basic function to me.

As for the menus, are you saying that LXDE would become more bloated if it allowed a Places menu? I'm surprised. Why would that require a lot of memory? You already have menus. How much more memory does it take to have a Places menu?

I don't expect LXDE to copy everything from Gnome, but I'm just talking about a menu. I'm not looking for a Gnome clone. I just want a menu and a cleaner desktop. Is it very hard for LXDE to provide that?
