pcmanfm 0.9.7 doesn't enter directories - any workaround?

So I was messing with an Angband variant. I got it to compile with my modifications... And then this happened.
Can 0.9.7 be configured to actually enter the working directory, so that such binaries work properly?
The binary was in the directory directly above the lib dir, so it should have had no problem - and, when run from a terminal cded into its directory, it didn't have a problem. This seems to me to indicate that pcmanfm 0.9.7, unlike pcmanfm-legacy, Thunar, Nautilus, or for that matter ROX, doesn't actually enter the directory it's working in. Similar behavior can be seen in e.g. KDE3 versions of Konqueror.Angband wrote: blah blah blah error cannot find lib directory blah blah blah
