This is not critical, but it is aggravating, especially considering how fast LXDE was opening at first.
After the login, the panel with all the related icons are displayed almost immediately and are usable.
However, it sometimes takes as long as 30 seconds for the desktop wallpaper and desktop files to appear after the panel starts up. This is a recent time delay: my computer used to get to a beautiful wallpaper and desktop within a second after the panel started up.
I've tried deep-cleaning the cache with Bleachbit, but I don't know where or how to troubleshoot this so that I can get the startup performance back. Once started up, there seems to be no delay issues. I tried Googling but got frustrated: Googling "lxde desktop slow" got me a lot of "my old desktop was slow, but with lxde, it's fast" posts.
Thanks in advance for any help. This isn't critical, as I said before, just annoying.
Strange slowdown on startup
Re: Strange slowdown on startup
I thought you described my problem, but mine is a little different. After login, panel, desktop wallpaper and icons show immediately, but I have to wait about 15 seconds to run any program. If I right click on desktop, choose desktop properties, the window doesn't appear immediately. After 15-20 sec everything works fast as usual.

Re: Strange slowdown on startup
Those of you who want help with problems are going to have to get used to identifying the distro you are running, how you got LXDE, what version it is, and such details. Also, starting with your distro as a means of support is in many cases going to be more effective.
This is like saying "my car won't start when it's cold" without saying what kind of car it is, and how many miles you have on it, and how long it is since you got a tuneup.

Re: Strange slowdown on startup
My apologies. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.1.
I didn't go directly to Ubuntu's website because most Ubuntu users use GNOME. I was using the netbook edition on my laptop before switching to LXDE.
I'll check on Ubuntu's site before posting in this thread again.

Re: Strange slowdown on startup
One way that occurs to me to get a handle on this is to ssh in from another machine and use things like the 'top' command to see what is running during that slowdown and taking the time. It could be that an upgrade installed something that has a bug in it that doesn't agree with your system.
Re: Strange slowdown on startup
Same thing happens here. Running Debian sid, happens on stock Debian kernel and the liquorix kernel. Using LXDE from the Debian repos.nobange wrote:I thought you described my problem, but mine is a little different. Happens on Intel driver and both the stable and beta Nvidia drivers.
