Is there any way in lxpanel to have an icon that opens up a drop down list of other icons? AKA a "drawer" or "cabinet"? Even just a button that opens up a specific menu tree (ie, "Other" or "Custom") would probably work... I just don't want 10 icons on my panel eating up space from the taskbar...

Not at the moment; it's an interesting idea though. I think you would have to live with the Freedesktop-compatible menu popup that contains everything.
