Panel On Top of Programs

Post by BossDj »

I just upgraded to latest Lubuntu, and didn't have this problem before the upgrade, so I don't know if this is a Lubuntu problem...

When I maximize programs, I want them to overlap the panel. When I uncheck "Reserve space, and not covered by maximized windows", programs and windows will no longer lock to the panel, but the panel remains always on top. I've tested file manager, terminal, chromium, and other applications. (So for example, the terminal command line is hidden behind the panel.)

Before I downgraded panel or did anything else, I wanted to make sure I wasn't being stupid and missing a simple check box. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I am LXDE for about 8 days now by the way, and quite happy.

Errrr, maybe you are looking for Panel Settings>Advanced>check box minimize panel when not in use. It is how I run my top panel.

No, if I am on the desktop, or working with multiple windows, I would like the panel to be present for quick access. I also have household members who would throw a fit if the panel was missing, and continue to complain no matter how much work I put into training them to find it!

Is anyone able to reproduce my original problem (not able to cover the panel with a maximized window)?

I think I will conclude that this is a problem, in which case can anyone tell me how to revert to an older version of lxpanel?

Thanks

Moving the mouse to top of screen to bring up the panel for quick access to programs and drop down and overlap open windows for quick menu access and then autohiding again when mouse is dropped down so panel is covered by maximised window again requires training and work? :o

Alrighty then.

Maybe I am confused?

because then you say,
(not able to cover the panel with a maximized window)?
I am lost on this thread. Sorry. :|

Putting aside "what I could do instead",

There is a checkbox under panel settings -> advanced that says "Reserve space, and not covered by maximized windows" (checked by default).

If I uncheck the button, windows maximize behind the panel (thus not accomplishing what it claims to do).

In Lubuntu 11.04, I could maximize windows overtop of the panel. When I upgraded to 11.10, this function does not work. I have no idea what version of lxpanel were in each version.

My questions: Does everyone else have the same result, or is it just me?
