Monitor autoswitch

So I'm completely sold on LXDE, having installed it on my home desktop. I then decided to use the same on my work laptop, so I installed debian 6 stable lxde and all is dandy... fast fast fast. With ONE exception...
How do I configure my system to autoswitch to my external monitor at maximum resolution when I plug it into my laptop? Currently it automatically activates the second monitor as a duplicate of the laptop's monitor, which would be fine except that the resolution is much lower. No matter what I change on lxrandr/xrandr/arandr, it's still the same next time. Any ideas?
