Automatic DVD playback

Post by israeldahl »

Hi, I have been pursuing this issue lately, to try to find a workaround, or solution completely native to LXDE (i.e. not installing thunar-volman, etc....)
And the pre info... Lubuntu 12.04.1 amd64 (internal DVD and external USB DVD drive both affected)
OK, so here's the issue:
I insert a DVD, and the nice pop-up window shows allowing me to select my movie player of choice...(vlc)
then.... VLC starts and the movie does not.
EVERY time. over and over I have to click and find in a menu just to play a DVD.

Is there some way to automatically choose a certain program (VLC, Smplayer, parole, etc....) and edit the CLI to point it automatically to the DVD drive so it not only starts the program automatically, but also starts the disc automatically??

I have been toying with the udev RUN rule, but that should only be for short programs (as it ties up udev). I feel that there should be some config file somewhere and it should be able to be edited... though this may be wrong....
Thanks in advance!!!
