Starting applications

openSUSE 11.0 formerly with KDE 3.5
LXDE new install

I used to start my applications via an icon on the desktop or see a listing of them when I hit that little button at the bottom left on the panel bar. Now, since I installed LXDE, some of my desktop icons do not work and I can't access my applications when I key the button for application menu at bottom left of my screen.
How do I fix this? Is there any documentation on this? Where would I go to find it?
As a note I can still start applications thru a termial.

If menu is not displayed you can kill the panel as given in this wiki and get your menu back.

To put your application launchers in the desktop copy the application files (* .desktop ) from /usr/share/applications directory to your desktop.

If it is only one or two applications that don't appear, check for "OnlyShowIn" and "NotShowIn" in the .desktop file and make necessary adjustments.
