HowTo change lxde file manager (pcmanfm to dolphin)?

Hello again list, moderators!
Two things, but the primary thing is in the subject. This help request is for a Pentium4 desktop with opensuse 12.3-32 and lxde desktop. On google I found examples of changing pcmanfm to nautilus which seems complicated by the mime-types change that goes with it.

Most of the "defections" from lxde that I have are to kde rather than gnome. That makes the change to dolphin more attractive as I have a lot of kde already installed including now dolphin.

My reason for changing file managers is kind of shakey, so I won't mention it here yet. I intend this FM change to be an experiment that I won't do unless I can also reverse it, if I"m not happy with the results.

Has anyone on the list successfully changed file managers? Going farther, has anyone here changed from pcmanfm to dolphin?

The other thing, secondary, is that my email address has changed. I couldn't find a place to change personal information. Do I have to reregister to change my email address? Heboland.

Unless Open Suse has something different about it, you should be able to use any file manager. Just install it and use it. I switch between Pcmanfm and Thunar all the time.

As far as to the workings of this site, good luck.

To change your email address go to:

User Control Panel | Profle | Edit Account Settings

Hope that helps, if you haven't found it already that is. :)

Thanks for the replies guys!

PaulW2U, I'm up to date now with the user control panel - thanks!

seppalta, thanks for the feedback. That's where I am now with both pcmanfm and dolphin available. I may leave things that way, but I'm tempted to try one more experiment. That would be to change the executable in pcmanfm to dolphin.

The reason that prompted the FM change is that my camera (Nikon P7000) pictures have been inaccessable after 12.3-32 installs on a pair of Pentium 4 desktops. pcmanfm mounts the camera as a USB drive. The permissions on the drive are me and user, but dragging pictures between FM instances, only the filename is copied to a 0 length file.

Attempting a copy from the CLI also hangs, but complains about an extension.

On one of each newer and older desktops this all worked fine with 12.3 and lxde, but the 12.3 is not up to date. I think the problem is related to 12.3 updates. Using dolphin with kio-slave, I can drag the camera files between dolphin instances OK.

The part about making one or the other filemanager the default should affect the FM behavior when the camera is plugged in. dolphin doesn't treat the camera as a usb drive, so wouldn't mount the camera memory like pcmanfm does. Apparently the pcmanfm mount does not bother the kio-slave from accessing camera files!

I think if I take this one more step, I can see what I have done and if I don't like it, I can reverse the process. Heboland.
