Ok, this is the
way under gnome/ubuntu in order to get and set icons position. Is there a similar way under lxde/ubuntu?

have you checked if
these files and folders are present on your system? maybe it's not gnome specific.

In Lubuntu you can drag and drop the various icons that are on your desktop and then when you have them approximately where you want them, right click and lock to grid.

my guess is op wants to use a script or program to put icons on the desktop and change them around, not the mouse.
