Hi,

I've started having two problems more or less at the same time, and together they suggest to me some sort of permission issue but I don't know how to deal with such things (it may be something else anyway). Any help appreciated! I have LXDE on top of Debian.

1. For the last few days, my computer asks me frequently for a wireless password whenever I am in range. It didn't do that before. Since I don't use it so much I wanted to uncheck the "connect automatically" (NetworkManager 0.9.4.1), but I discovered that the "Save" button is greyed out! That is, I can change things, but only hit "Cancel" afterwards.

2. Today I tried to play an audio file (certainly did before) but there is no sound. I use Banshee 2.4.1 but tried other things, including a youtube video. The audio control is alsamixer, I don't see anything strange there (I used it not long ago to change the volume). Following some internet search I installed xfce4-mixer but when I run it I get something like "GStreamer could not detect any device [...]"

1. You can always delete the network since you do not use it often. That should prevent it from asking you for your password. However, once you have connected to the network, the system should have remembered your password and connected automatically. So, if you delete the network now and want to use it later you can do that and make your chages at that time.

2. Make sure the controls on your computer are not set to mute or are not set so low that you cannot hear the sound. Then look here:
