How to update Flash Player

Brand new to Linux, know nothing.

Installed LXLE (32bit 14.04.3 I think) on my dying Win XP machine. Like it so far a lot.

Go to places like Youtube and others and it wants me to update my Flash player.

I downloaded a tar.gz update.

The readme says "Unpack the tar.gz and copy the files to the appropriate location."

Where might the appropriate location be and is "unpack" the same as "extract"?

Thanks in advance.

Keep Google Chrome up to date. Flash is integrated into Google Chrome for Linux, and this is the only officially-supported version of Flash on Linux now. ...
Open the Chrome browser. ...
Click the Chrome Menu button (☰). ...
Wait for Chrome to update.

the previous post doesn't make much sense.

buzzlightyear, there was a security issue with the flashplugin a while ago, and iirc firefox would throw a warning. is that what you are seeing?

in any case, please try to update your system (and keep it up-to-date!).

execute the following commands in a terminal and post the complete output here:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get-update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
