Display hostname

I would like to display the hostname on the Panel
Is there an existing applet to do this, or instructions on how to write an applet?

What you can put on a panel depends on the panel. Lxpanel appears limited to the offerings that appear when you right click the panel and choose
Panel Preferences>Panel Applets . The best panel for offering everything is
fbpanel with the
genmon plugin. See

think one can separately install a similar plugin for xfce4-panel.
