Hello everyone,
I use : PCManFM 1.3.1, on Debian 10.3 Buster, locale is French.
In the French version of pcmanfm the column called (I suppose) "Owner only" gives me two problems:
1) the French translation is far too long : "Seulement le propriétaire";
2) the column takes too much space, and it cannot be reduced the way I wish
I understand this is normal behavior such that the reduction is not allowed to conceal the name of the column.
If only I knew how and where to alter the French translation to read simply : "Propriétaire", I guess that would already probably solve both my problems.
Can anyone help? Or is that unalterable, unchangeable programme code?
Thanks a lot to all of you !
Ludo
Name (and width) of "Owner" column (in French) - or perhaps just translation, but where?

Re: Name (and width) of "Owner" column (in French)
Where exactly are you seeing this column?
In the "Deatiled list" view for files and folders?
I am not quite sure what the English version would be.
Can you please do the following:
And tell us the english name of that column?
Possibly a screenshot, too?

Code: Select all
killall pcmanfm
LC_ALL=C pcmanfm

Re: Name (and width) of "Owner" column (in French)
Hello (again ) drooly, hello everyone,
First of all thank you for your - second - answer, drooly.
Yes it is "Detailed list view".
Attachment is enclosed.
Don't you use English locale either ? I was just guessing it could (logically) be called "Owner only".
BUT I'm WRONG : it's just called plain "Owner" (as the latest screenshot shows) !
It shows ownership for flies and folders.
Why was it translated into French with such an unnecessarily long expression ? I wonder...
"Owner" is (even google knows that) plain and simply "Propriétaire".
I guess there is a way this translation can be changed by a plain (but interested) user like me - or must it be done by the programmers ?
Best regards and thanks for your help.

Re: Name (and width) of "Owner" column (in French) - or perhaps just translation, but where?
I think this is some type of bug with the translation for pcmanfm, most likely in /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/pcmanfm.mo
See if you can find that translation in there, then file a bug: https://sourceforge.net/p/pcmanfm/bugs/ (check first if this hasn't been reported already).

Hello drooly, hello everyone,
No big deal: I found pcmanfm.mo (true: I know these are translation files), exactly where you said, in /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES
(there was also a /usr/share/locale/fr_FR/LC_MESSAGES but that one only had one file inside!)
There was one part in English and one in French, but there was no string that are used in the window view of pcmanfm.
So I guess I'm good for filing a bug in SourceForge...
Thanks anyway for your help on this one.
Best regards.
