I am very interested in trying some of the lx apps such as lxshortcut, lxtask, and lxmusic and i am sure there are other lightweight apps out there but i have had alot of trouble finding some of the downloadable packages is there not a respitory for synaptic? Also what other lx application are out there?

I guess you are using Debian right? Most of the LXapplication should be in Debians repository. If you want to see all applications, have a look at LXDE's svn on sf.net.
