I'd like to add launchers to my panel for transmission, amarok, etc. However, I cant find an option in the panel menu to do so.
Any information on how to add custom launchers would be much appreciated.

Simply create a *.desktop file, have a look at lxshourtcut, it makes it very easy . Check that you have a application launchbar (or called similar) in your panel, right click on it, select edit. Then you see a window there is a button called add, click it and add your custom *.desktop file.
