[BUG?] pcmanfm desktop commands

The pcmanfm desktop commands, --desktop and similar, sometimes they works as expected, they send the command to the main session, sometimes --desktop start a new session. And it look like random... 
is it a bug or am I missing something ?
my goal is to reload the settings after config file change. A command option to refresh the desktop settings would be usefull !
