Permision denied at opening a file

Post by pcfan »

Hello, this must be my first post. I have used lxde fro a month now, but I know it from a long time ago, since I used to run in a laptop.
Now in my PC I cannot access my files, I am not a advanced user, that is why I tried using the terminal but cannot get results. I need as user (and I am in the root group, i think) to have access to all my files specially pdfs because I need them for my work.
It's been 4 hours now and I cannot open any .

I have my home folder set in another partition in fact is another folder called "DATA" which is mounted on /home/user name.
This is my computer. I appreciate your help. Thanks.

It sounds like you have your files in another partition (/dev/sda3) that is not mounted automatically when you boot LXLE. To access your files, you need to mount the partition first.

You can do this manually by running this command in a terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo mount /dev/sda3 /mnt
This will mount the partition to the /mnt directory. You can then use a file manager or a terminal to browse the files in /mnt.

However, this is only a temporary solution. If you want to mount the partition permanently, you need to edit the /etc/fstab file and add an entry for /dev/sda3.

You can open the file in a text editor with root privileges:

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/fstab
You can add a line like this at the end of the file:

Code: Select all

/dev/sda3 /mnt ext4 defaults 0 2
This assumes that your partition is formatted as ext4. You can change it to match your partition type.

To save and exit the file, press Ctrl+O and then Ctrl+X.

You may need to reboot for the changes to take effect.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your reply, appreciated.
It's been a long time and I currently changed the partitions.
But I will keep your reply and commands , just in case ;)
Regards.
