Hi everyone,

I recently decided to revive an old laptop that's been gathering dust. After doing some research,, I chose to install LXDE due to its lightweight nature; which seemed perfect for the outdated hardware. The installation went smoothly but I am facing a few challenges that I could really use some advice on:

• Battery life:- The battery drains pretty quickly, even with minimal usage. Are there any power management tweaks within LXDE that can help extend battery life: ??

• Screen tearing:- I have noticed a bit of screen tearing, especially when watching videos or scrolling through web pages. Is there a way to fix this in LXDE, particularly on older Intel-based graphics: ??

• Speed improvements:- While LXDE is fast, I am wondering if there are additional settings or apps I can disable to get even more speed out of this machine. Any suggestions on slimming it down even more: ??

David, what operating system did you install lxde on. Lxde is not a computer operating system. It is the Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment. It is merely the device which allows you to use a graphical user interface (GUI) on your computer. You can install it on a myriad of operating systems and most if not all will seem relatively faster because it uses less resources to get the job done.
If you have not replaced the old battery in that laptop gathering dust, I would suggest that it drains quickly because it is preparing to die. It probably needs to be replaced.
The screen tearing may be related to the on-board video card and is unlikely related to whatever desktop environment that you have installed.
With regard to the speed, there is nothing in lxde that will likely increase your speed. Increasing your RAM (up to the max that the computer will take) may help but you are pretty much limited by the hardware you have.
If you have further problems recommend that you seek assistance on the forum of the operating system that you have installed on your computer.
