I've got two questions. First one is Is LXDE really the way to go? I had a friend recommend it once but i dont really know. Online a lot of people say GNOME is the best Second question: How do I install it? Do I uncheck the Debian desktop environment tab or not. Thanks in advance
PS: Also what do the other options below do? (web server, SSH server)

Welcome to the LXDE forums. First, LXDE and Gnome as well as the others listed are merely desktop environments. They are not operating systems. They generally bring their own applications when installing them. Gnome is probably the most popular among all of the Linux distributions. LXDE uses fewer resources and is considered the lightest of the desktop environments. Gnome is considered one of the heaviest. So it depends upon what you want. Secondly, if you want to install it place a check mark next to LXDE.

Hi Julian,
On the day 18th that you posted – I posted on Debian Forum…
Debian 12 LXDE on 2013 Dell Latitude E6420 i7
Also uploaded some screenshots

Nobody has taken me up on my generous offer – see below – lol
As Rex says – just check that LXDE box and it will take you to download
Everything works fine if a bet heavy on resources compared to other debian based distros.
616MiB RAM vs 260MiB at idle.
To my taste the Debian LXDE taskbar and icons looks like a disjointed mismatch looks dreadful IMHO
Enough to put prospective viewers off for life.
Would you like me to tweak it into a pleasant homogeneous style for you?
