Difference between lxde and lxqt

Post by ramiroelliot »

I am having a hard time selecting one of the above desktop environment .. I just know the basic difference lxde uses GTK and lxqt uses Qt toolkit.... Compared to each other which is lighter on resources and which one is actively developed?

Welcome the lxde forums. Reference to which is lighter on resources, that would be lxde. However to base your decision solely on which one uses less resources is a bit foolish since RAM is so inexpensive and plentiful today. As to which is being actively developed, that would be LXQT. However, lxde is being maintained by the community and when you have something that works very well it is relatively easy to maintain it. Both desktop environments can be downloaded from many of the distro repositories. Which operating system is currently on your computer? That is the big question. What are you wanting you DE to do on your computer operating system?

LXDE is considered lighter on resources than LXQt in its base state. This is primarily because LXDE is built using the older GTK 2 toolkit, which has fewer dependencies and a smaller memory footprint compared to Qt. PolyTrack
