Autohide, confused

I understand that LXpanel doesn't support autohide, but in researching alternatives to LXpanel, I learned that LXpanel is derived from fbpanel which DOES support autohide. Was this feature added late to fbpanel? Why can't this feature be ported to LXpanel?

Autohide is a desirable feature for many reasons. The lightweight nature of LXDE makes it ideal for netbooks such as the Asus EEE where screen area is at a premium.

(I failed to get fbpanel to "logout" the lxde session so I'm back to LXpanel... :( )

Yes, it's available in later versions of fbpanel.
It's not yet ported to lxpanel because lxpanel is now quite different from fbpanel so more work needs to be done.
Besides, currently no one has the time to do it.
If you know programming or know who can help us, please make a patch for it.
Otherwise you can contact Marty Jack in our team to see if he is willing to help.
Thanks.

The developer mentioned has it on his to-do list already. He would like to finish up a couple other smaller items first. We understand it is very desirable on small screens.
