Write lxpanel applets in python

Is it possible to write lxpanel applets in python?

Or is such a capability being considered? It would certainly help average users (who can't code in C) to write more plugins, which means lxpanel will become more popular.

That would be very cool. For xfce, there is pyxfce. Such a binding would be great.
