Antialiasing font help

Post by ebike »

Hi All,

I have been running LXDE on my desktop for the last while and the graphics/fonts look great. I then decided to try LXDE on my laptop, but am finding that the fonts themselves are looking very thin and don't look anti aliased, i.e they have jagged rendering (maybe need sub pixel rendering?).

I have tried running my X server at both 100DPI and 75DPI, but apart from the font size changing, no difference in the quality. The fonts under gnome are very nice and smooth.

This issue is the only thing stopping me using LXDE on my laptop full time.

Can anyone suggest anything to try?

(My laptop is running at 1024x768 resolution.)

Thanks.

AhHa ... I found the answer. At the Ubuntu forum site I found this reference to turn on sub-pixel rendering

--> http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... +rendering

now my fonts look as good as they did in gnome .... :D

Hope this helps someone.

Cheers,
