seamonkey 2.0, instantbird and webcam

Post by oui »

hi

a/ seamonkey and instantbird

i am using the beta version of seamonkey 2.0 (is like firefox 3. but with as suite with email, composer, irc-chat and adressbook as usual in seamonkey, see at http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... est-trunk/ ) in /usr/lib/seamonkey/seamonkey and the alpha version of instantbird in /usr/lib/instantbird/instantbird (is a compact instant messenger because you don't need KDE or Gnome components; see at http://instantbird.org).

the mozilla guys give the package as *.tar.bz2. it is very easy to open with a tar -xvjf *.bz2 command and to move into /usr/lib where the other browser find her place.

but what is to do

a1) - to get an icon in the main menu of LXDE
a2) - to place an icon on the desktop
a3) - to get an icon of favorite application in the task bar of LXDE to start it first
a4) - to see a permanent icon of the started messenger if it is closed to reopen it to use it :?:

b/ webcam

I know only one multiple instant messenger able to manage the webcam with yahoo or msn friends, kopete. it is of course nonsens to install LXDE and use kopete because you have to install a great part of the KDE for kopete. or meebo for example in a good browser like seamonkey. but i find that the tuning of the webcam is not easy outside of kopete.

what other ways are possible to tune best the webcam first and after that use it through the browser?

my installation:
actual Debian testing i86 (fresh net installed from check card iso with only the main applications but not the office applications because they install Gnome)

I suppose it is the job of LXLauncher?

and did find some few indications in the wiki

my problem is probably that I have found no subdirectory named /user/sharing/lxlauncher and, of course no files in it!

In /root there is a sub directory /root/.local/share/applications, and, in it 3 files:

a2a leafpad-usercreated-0.desktop (desktop configuration file)
a2b leafpad-usercustom-0.desktop (desktop configuration file)
a2c mimeinfo.cache (plain text document)

First create .desktop file with LXShortcut http://wiki.lxde.org/en/LXShortCut. Invoke it (in terminal) with "lxshortcut -o wantedshortcutname.desktop" - replace "wantedshortcutname" with desired filename ie "seamonkey". A window should pop up; GUI is quite selfexlpanatory, so you should be able to fill values accordingly. Note: If you want to see the shortcut in LXDE menu under "Network" submenu, open the created file (seamonkey.desktop) with text editor (Leafpad, gedit) and add line "Category = Network" at the end, else it will appear under "Other" submenu.

Now:
for a1, copy the resulting file to /usr/share/applications
for a2, copy the resulting file to /home/USERNAME/Desktop/
for a3, right click on lxpanel quick launch bar, then clik sth like "Add lanucher" and in the file browser select aforementioned file
for a4, not sure what do you mean, maybe the tray icon? If so, the program itself must support minimizing to tray feature.

I have no idea what to do about webcam. Try installing some webcam utilities in Debian's package manager and choose which one configures your webcam best.

LXLauncher is primarily used as a frontend for launching applications for netbooks (small notebooks) and has nothing to do with placing shortcuts on desktop whatsoever.

I am trying to set a shorcut / icon to mount an EncFS volume/filesystem. This needs opening terminal to type in the password opening EncFS. Inspite of trying all known tricks this does not work - does not open terminal.

The issue explained in this threadhttp://forum.lxde.org/viewtopic.php?f=8 ... 2951#p2951

Any help / advise appreciated.
