"manage the desktop and arrange desktop icons" oopsie

I unchecked that, and all my icons disappeared. I can't get the program back, I've poked around didn't find it. What was that I unchecked?

Also, originally I was looking for how to arrange icons manually on the LXDE desktop instead of auto-arrange.

You must have unchecked it inside pcmanfm. Just check it again and it's OK. You should be able to by pcmanfm -> edit -> settings (preferences) - > desktop ..

A nice alternative to having pcmanfm manage the desktop is Idesk.
