When I launch Totem in LXDE, there are no application control icons. Instead of a pause button or a volume button, there are just little red circles with slashes, which are the default icons used when the correct icon files cannot be found. mplayer-gnome and VLC don't have this problem.
I guess this is another example of LXDE and Gnome not playing nicely together? Is this one fixable?

Which makes me think the problem is NOT with LXDE but might be with Totem itself.worker201 wrote:When I launch Totem in LXDE, there are no application control icons. For me, as long as VLC is working, I don't really need anything else but that's me.

Re: Totem missing application control icons
I should mention that Totem has all the correct buttons when it is loaded in Gnome.
I tried playing a video in VLC today - it kept going out of sync with the sound. VLC is great for playing videos with errors or bizarre codecs, but I prefer something else for watching hi-quality video. mplayer is working well for me right now.

What is the Hardware Specification of your machine? your Graphics Card?
You mentioned that mplayer is working well for you so I don't think there is something wrong with your Graphics Card-Driver.
Sometimes, it's good to run a program in Terminal and see if there will be an errors.
VLC works for me without issues. I'll install Totem just to help you with your problem. Let's see what will happen

I'm using Fedora 15.
IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T60:
Intel Core Duo Yonah 1.66 GHz
2 GB RAM
Intel GMA 950 graphics
Yes, it's an older machine, but it's very stable. Never had any troubles with it before.

Totem here is fine. I installed it as agreed and I don't see any issue.
Have you tried to remove it and install it again?

Re: Totem missing application control icons
Have you tried changing the icon theme? I suspect that the icon theme is the problem....some programs dont play well with certain icon themes.
Re: Totem missing application control icons
Current icon theme is Oxygen.

Re: Totem missing application control icons
Have you tried changing icon themes? That would at least tell you if your problem was with the icon theme of with Totem.
You could also try to reinstall Totem.
Later today, Ill install Totem and see if I can force the same problem.

Re: Totem missing application control icons
I had tried switching to a different icon theme before, but it didn't work. However, that's because the icon theme I switched to didn't have the right icons either. Switching to a much more thorough icon theme solved the problem. I'm now using Mist - which doesn't look as good, but is more complete.
