Hi, I have a slightly strange issue. I've set up my lxde panel with various application launch bars etc. But some of them are opening several copies of the utility when I click on them. And this isn't very consistent -- the shortcut for the terminal *sometimes* does it, the monitor settings *occasionally* does it, the shutdown menu *nearly always* does it. (I think it's generally three copies, if it's not the expected one copy).
I installed lxde 0.5.0 on top of a regular install of ubuntu 10:04. (I'm experimenting with it and xfce before I abandon gnome 2.x, because I'm not going to use unity or gnome 3.)

I'm not sure about the LXPanel but for the desktop and opening several copies of LXTerminal, you are not alone. It happens with me too.
The reason is, sometimes when you click say on LXTerminal which is on the Desktop, then you click something else, the LXTerminal icon remains highlighted so when you give "Click" order to anything on the desktop, it opens too. I used to suffer from this a lot with Lubuntu 10.04 but it seems less happening with Lubutnu 11.04 and Lubutnu 11.10.
I'm a member of Lubuntu Team and I've been with Lubutnu for more than a year now. If you take my advice, I'd recommend to try Lubuntu as a whole OS which is much better than just installing lxde-desktop package.
You can install it on 4GB USB Drive and give it a try. If you require more information about Lubuntu, please see this:

It ha all what you need.

Thanks!
I don't think it can be the kind of reason you give, because when I go to switch my monitor / suspend, I just click the thing and wait for the dialog, I'm not doing anything in between.
Oh well. Doesn't matter terribly, but annoyingly when it happens it makes lxde nearly as slow as gnome to open a terminal.
Afraid I'll be keeping gnome on my laptop until I've given lxde a rather longer test-run (and I haven't finally decided on it over xfce, though I also haven't worked out what I gain with xfce for the extra weight...). But for the record, what are the concrete advantages to bothering to move all the way over to lubuntu -- I couldn't immediately see a page on the page of links on the lxde + ubuntu / lubuntu comparison?

I know, you are right but I was talking about LXTerminal icon on the Desktop, nothing elseelizabeth wrote:I don't think it can be the kind of reason you give, because when I go to switch my monitor / suspend, I just click the thing and wait for the dialog, I'm not doing anything in between.

You are not running an LXDE OS, you are running Ubuntu with LXDE Desktop. Installing an OS with LXDE by default is NOT like installing the package over another system.Oh well. Doesn't matter terribly, but annoyingly when it happens it makes lxde nearly as slow as gnome to open a terminal.
I have tried more than 50 Distributions and was Multi-Booting 9 OS's once. I didn't like anything but Ubuntu 10.04 and Lubuntu. I'm now all into Lubuntu and using 11.04. So much happy with it.Afraid I'll be keeping gnome on my laptop until I've given lxde a rather longer test-run (and I haven't finally decided on it over xfce, though I also haven't worked out what I gain with xfce for the extra weight...).
Having that said, the BEST way to decide what OS to move to is to TRY that OS. There are several ways to do that, Virtual Machines, Live-CD, Live-USB, install on an External or USB Drive or regular installation. You can't decide unless you try it yourself and see the differences yourself. I could write articles for you but your opinion and needs may vary so whatever I'll write, will not help like when you see yourself

By the way, I'm GNOME 2.xx user (previously) and LXDE user. I don't use other DE's.
Ubuntu is Ubuntu. Lubuntu is Lubuntu. Both share the same core but applications (most) and Desktop Environment are totally different. Each is an OS on its own. User Experience is so much different if you ask me. I've been using both at the same time and writing that from experience. But for the record, what are the concrete advantages to bothering to move all the way over to lubuntu -- I couldn't immediately see a page on the page of links on the lxde + ubuntu / lubuntu comparison?
Usually, we compare two OS having the same purpose. Say Linux Mint LXDE and Lubuntu. But comparing Lubuntu with Ubuntu? I don't think so. Each has different approach. That's my personal opinion and YMMV.
In my Lubuntu One Stop Thread, you'll find a guide for HOWTO Install Lubuntu on USB Drive. Have a look and you may want to try that.
