I am Gentoo user. The philosophy which I use while building my DE is similar to your... So I would like to suggest a couple of apps for LXDE project:
* CD/DVD burning tool - Brasero. Starting from 0.8.1 and higher does not depend on Gnome
* login manager - slim. Customizable and configurable. However "reboot" and "halt" are implemented a bit "strangely"
* terminal - urxvt. Default look is not glancy. Utf and Perl plugins support
* keyboard tool - xxkb. Very young app. However I guess it will be useful for non english users
* Maybe it is some sense to use geany instead of leafpad. Its really cool. Lite, full featured, no extra dependencies
* default browser: midori (firefox as extended)
* clipboard tool: parcellite
* calculator - galculator
New apps for LXDE
Re: New apps for LXDE
* CD/DVD burning tool - Brasero? Yes, if really it doesn't depend on Gnome. In Arch Linux, Brasero 0.8.2 still want to install Gnome stuff :/
* Login Manager +1 (GDM is too heavy for LXDE
)
* Browser - I think he have too wait with this decision. Midori isn't ready IMO.
Kermit.

Re: New apps for LXDE
* Another alternative login manager might be WDM. I *think* neither WDM nor slim support automatic logins.ZuBB wrote:I am Gentoo user. The philosophy which I use while building my DE is similar to your... So I would like to suggest a couple of apps for LXDE project:

* As to parcelllite - IMHO it's not a very good clipboard. Your selections are not automatically copied to the clipboard?! Strange behavior for a clipboard. I like the xfce4 clipman behavior much better. Unfortunately I've never seen another stand-alone gtk clipboard.

Re: New apps for LXDE
As an Arch Linux developer I will recommend for you to bring this up to the Arch community, via a bug report. We are constantly doing our best to not include optional dependencies as pacakge dependencies, but just to enable its support.Kermit wrote:* CD/DVD burning tool - Brasero? Personally, using a trial of nerolinux has show it has potential and have no GNOME or KDE dependencies.
As a music player I'll say consonance is the one I like. Developed by an Arch Linux user, is available in the AUR.
For editor I use cream, has a decent word wrapper, I haven't gor geany to word wrap at 80 width.
Re: New apps for LXDE
Slim Login Manager is great an really fast!
Brasero is good but but I havnt seen it without gnome dependencies...
As Editor I normally use gedit but geany seems to bee nice as well.
For Music i just love the MPD with one of the various gtk clients: http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Clients

About parcelite. Yes, its true
However author already knows about this feature request, so go to sf.net and vote for it!
Automatic login: slim does it in an half way
So pass you need to enter yourself. Although not sure what happens if was will be empty.
Anyway its author is open for discussion.
Music. Its hard question. There are too many players in GNU/Linux so.. Currently I am using Audacious(Winamp like)/Exaile(Amarok like).
Nero? No.
What I should do after trial? I used to use cracked version of Nero under MSWin. So that's enough. I want to use *small* and fast apps but not a huge and heavy.
Back to browsers: How about using Opera static build? Its included all needed Qt4 stuff. That package has ~11M
Torrent client: transmission. Small, main features are present, remote control, but no webUI..

Re: New apps for LXDE
Music alternative: I came across potamus. It is light, gtk - no features, and I mean none, other than a playlist and the basic buttons. Got some weird dependencies though - JACK something..... unfamiliar to me. I believe it could use some work, but it sure is an interesting alternative if MPD (or an alternative music server) is out of the question!

Re: New apps for LXDE
Havnt testet potamus but looks promising...
But with Jackd as dependency its not suitable... I dont want to install a special soundserver just to play some mp3...

Yes, they are, you only need to set this in the prefs dialog -> Use primary (selection)mzilikazi wrote:* As to parcelllite - IMHO it's not a very good clipboard. Your selections are not automatically copied to the clipboard?! Strange behavior for a clipboard.
Re: New apps for LXDE
I would like to see the use of slim--
The distro antix-mepis(m8) can Automatic login some how with slim?
I think a lighter window manager (like oroborus or firebox-wm) would be nice as well.
