Actually I never managed to make StartupNotify=true to work in LXDE. Is this my flaw, or bug in LXDE. If it is a bug, in what LXDE component?

Welcome to the lxde forum. A little more information would be helpful. What do you want to do and what have you already done? Out of curiosity which distro are you using?

Thanks. I want to have hourglass mouse cursor (or arrow+hourglass, or cycling circle or any other "I am working" mouse cursor) when the programs are loading after double click on the launcher icon (on desktop, start menu, etc.)Rex Bouwense wrote:Welcome to the lxde forum. According to the documentation and the forum posts, this effect is active when the .desktop file contains "StartupNotify=true" line. But it simply does not work in LXDE (btw it works in other desktop environments such as XFCE).
I am using Linux Mint and OpenSuse with LXDE. The behavior is the same on both. So, should I make some config file changes or something or this feature simply is not implemented in LXDE?

Hi, according to this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... st12474947), it may be hard-coded. In other words, changing cursor themes or editing config files may not help.johnfound wrote:...

What "hard coded" actually means? I have an impression this feature is "not coded at all". That is why I am asking here. Or maybe there is one single special cursor theme where "StartupNotify" works?vasa1 wrote:Hi, according to this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... st12474947), it may be hard-coded. Re: StartupNotify=true in the .desktop files does not work.
One correction: On OpenSuse Linux StartupNotify actually works. It was my fault to report it as not working. But in Linux Mint it does not works at all. So, is it an Ubuntu problem? Any suggestions? What to check?
Re: StartupNotify=true in the .desktop files does not work.
i think vasa1 meant that not all programs are actually using this feature. setting startupnotify=true just allows them to use it, but it's the program itself that is sending teh signal to change the cursor.johnfound wrote:What "hard coded" actually means? but i could be wrong, it's a vague memory.

Drooly, I believe that you are correct but I cannot find documentation. Well, this may not matter to some people, but a busy signal from the cursor may not be available when using lxde. It is, remember a very light weight desktop that is not resource hungry. Those of us that have been using lxde for some time don't care. Perhaps it is an inconvenience but it is a minor one. By the way, StartupNotify=true doesn't work for me either. I'm not sure if it will work for anyone using lxde.

Re: StartupNotify=true in the .desktop files does not work.
Only to finish the discussion. After some tests, I found out that StartupNotify clearly does not work only on Ubuntu based distributions. Currently I installed OpenSUSE with LXDE and here StartupNotify=true partially works - only for the Desktop icons. Start menu and application launchers on the LXPanel does not support it anyway.
