I wanted to learn PyGTK+ and Gstreamer, so I wrote a music player called JustPlay. I had some trouble with LXMusic out of the box. It left me thinking "gee, does a basic, lightweight desktop like LXDE really need a music player that runs on a client-server architecture?" To that end, my player has just basics. It lets you edit the playlist with powerful drag-n-drop support (let your file manager manage your files, not your music player!) and provides the usual features (volume, seek, repeat, shuffle, etc).
Check it out if LXMusic gives you hassles.

Re: JustPlay - simple music player
I would never discourage someone from writing something they find interesting, but there are a few others to consider such as alsaplayer, exaile, gnome-mplayer depending on what it is people wanted to play and whether you wanted music library database support, etc.
