hibernation

How can i stop my laptop from overheating and going into hibernation when playing sims 2? Never used to do this, but recently when i play sims 2 my laptop gets really hot and fan goes crazy then my computer goes in to hibernation - or at least i think it does - all the lights on my keyboard are still lit as though its on but screen black and i cant get it out of that state and need to switch it off which can sometime be a bit of task in itself. it doesnt always want to switch off.
