Hi LXDEers,
I'm totally new to LXDE. I installed it two hours ago. I like its quick response and sharp look.
I struggled a little bit before being able to play a DVD. So far, this is how I managed to play a DVD:
$ pmount /dev/cdrom0
$ kaffeine -d /dev/cdrom0
Is this a right way? On Windows and KDE, when you insert a DVD, you get a dialog which askes you how to open the DVD. Then you choose whatever DVD player you like. I'm wondering
1) If there is a similar feature with LXDE but it's not working for me for some reason; or
2) If there is no such feature and you have to mount the device by yourself as I did. And
3) If there is a LXDE-friendly DVD player.
I'm fine with (2). I just want to know. Oh, and I'm using the testing distribution of Debian.
Best regards,
Ryo

Re: play DVD
Hi
1) Sorry there is no future yet.
2) You will have to mount the cd yourself. You can easily do this with PCManFM, Just klick on the CD-Icon.
3) I use VLC and MPlayer.

Re: play DVD
Thank you for your response. The automount feature of KDE and Windows I mentioned isn't a big deal. I can live without it. I just wanted to know whether manual mounting is the right way or not. And thanks for the information about pcmanfm. It would help when you don't know the name of the device you want to mount.
It may be slightly tricky to figure out how to tell your DVD player which device to use. For Kaffeine, I found the -d option in its manpage.
Regards,
Ryo

Re: play DVD
With Mplayer you simply start "gmplayer" (mplayer with Gui
) and right-click on it. Now choose "DVD->Open Disc" from the Menu. Thats all.

Re: play DVD
Kaffeine has/had a config option for defining the dvd device.
It would be possible to add an entry in fstab for mounting all things in drive in some special point.
But why mounting at all?
Kaffeine/Xine is doing all that stuff for you, you can just set one time the device node (e.g. /dev/hdc) in Kaffeine config and then just click DVD.

Re: play DVD
Hi! Hope someone can help.
I'm using Mepis under LXDE (or am i using LXDE under Mepis?) -- HAL is all set, my devices automount fine under KDE. My usb sticks show up automatically in PCMan, but my two CD drives do not show up in LXDE, only in KDE. Any ideas what i need to do?
Take it easy with me! I can do commandline and know how to get into root and edit files, just please don't assume i know all the lingo -- THANKS!
