Anybody using Lubuntu updated to 13.10 and noticed battery icon missing from the taskbar?
I have added the panel item "Battery Monitor" but it is a poor substitute. Also tried removing the re-installing indicator-power. Any thoughts?

I noticed that when I first installed 13.10. I went to Preferences->Power Manager. Navigate to General Options and then choose Always show icon. It works for me.

Yes I noticed that too. I added a Battery Monitor using "Add/remove panel items" It gave me one but it was a ugly big bright yellow one.
So I thought I try the sugestion above. Slight problem with this.
When I click on "power management" it give me an error "Xfce4 power manager not running, do you want to run it now"
So I click yes and proceed to selecting "always show icon" as described above" However that doesn't seem to do it.
So I waondering why the power manager is not running in the first place? is it something I've configured that stop it from loading at boot up?

Not sure why it wasn't running. When I first installed Lubuntu 13.10, the power manager wasn't running either. Perhaps it is set not to start by default until you start it. Ever since I chose to start it it now starts automatically. As to an ugly big bright yellow icon, I have not seen that one.

Re: Lubuntu 13.10 -> battery icon missing
Lubuntu is a little different from Ubuntu. Components have been selected so as not to be resource intensive.
Mine is located at /etc/xdg/autostart.Autostart files in an LXDE desktop and/or Openbox can be located at at least 5 places, depending upon the distro. These are
/etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart
/etc/xdg/openbox/autostart
~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh
~/.config/autostart
/etc/xdg/autostart.
The first three are text files that are edited by adding text according to some format, and the last two are directories containing .desktop files for the processes that are to be started. If the lxde-core desktop is installed, then the lxde-autostart usually takes precedence in the command order, although I would guess all of them are searched at boot-up. The two autostart files in the user's home directory (~/) only apply to that user; the 3 in the etc directory apply to all users.

OK I've fixed it.
This page led me to the answer.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/360520/l ... er-manager
As described in answer #5.3 I changed it from "config only" to "no"
I then had to select the "power manager" check box under above.
This still did not persist after reboot, However, choosing the Settings tab and then changing "laptop mode" to "yes" fixed it
