I have Shotwell installed,as it is my preferred photo manager. I assume Shotwell Viewer was installed along with it. Now when I open the Preferences > Preferred Applications tool, only the Web Browser and Email client are there; no entry for Image Viewer. I am using Debian and `update-alternatives` doesn't show an entry close enough to be set for the default image viewer. I go to /usr/share/applications and shotwell-viever.desktop is there. Do I need to change something in that file?
Currently, when I double-click on images, it opens in Iceweasel (Firefox). I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction here. Thanks.
How do I set Shotwell Viewer as the default image viewer?

Welcome to the LXDE forum. Have you tried the simplest solution? Right click on a photo and select "Open With".
Perhaps that doesn't show up.

"Right-click --> Open With" doesn't show Shotwell Viewer in the options. But I did find a solution, although I don't know if it's the official way of doing this.Rex Bouwense wrote:Welcome to the LXDE forum. Have you tried the simplest solution? Right click on a photo and select "Open With".

Go to PCManFM, into a folder with a picture file, e.g. picture.png, and do "Right-click --> Properties". Once the dialog opens for the file, under the "General" tab, there is a drop-down for "Open with:" and fortunately, Shotwell Viewer is there. Set it to that, and everything with the .png extension will open with Shotwell Viewer. Do this to other file types e.g. .jpg, .nef, etc.
I would also like to point out that when I installed Shotwell (after installing Iceweasel), and double-clicked on a .png file, it opened in Shotwell Viewer. Then I installed GIMP after Shotwell and now the .png file opens in GIMP. So I don't know if I install another photo viewer/editor, if the application I set in the "Properties --> Open with:" for the file, e.g. .png, will be overridden and I'd have to manually set said property for each file type again.

Glad that you were able to solve it. Not sure why you could not have done that with a single picture and then set it from there but so long as you got it solved. That is the important thing. I think that we are basically talking about the same thing anyway.
Stick around and help if you want to. We can use all the help that we can get.
